Conference 2021 THEME

The theme of the 2021 Conference is hold fast to your identity - kia mau ki tō tuakiritanga.

We invited educators to submit abstracts to inspire and motivate delegates to strengthen and build connections among our diverse people and practices so we, the visual arts can continue to move forward with vigour into the 20’s. We were not disappointed! Conference delegates will have plenty to DO, to SEE and to TALK about when they leave, with strategies, ideas and a stronger sense of identity and connections for the new era.

There will be stuff to DO (45, 90 and some 180 minute practical workshops)

There will be tools and tips to share for new and existing teachers and students to help them with their day to day mahi to establish effective practices in the classroom and in their community. There will be presenters who are leading the way with new ideas, new approaches and/or developed practice relevant to issues we are all facing. There are inspiring career journeys to hear about, and method and idea that work. There will be cutting edge technology and experiences and innovative approaches to take away and share with your colleagues in all sectors (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary).

There will be stuff to LISTEN to and TALK about (45 minutes)

The world of art is constantly evolving. This constant change demands resilience and continual up-skilling. There will be presenters and facilitators of focus groups who are/have been involved in research, evidence and/or design that will challenge and empower teachers and practitioners. There are presenters who have taken initiatives that consider health, sustainability, wellness and resilience. There will be views of inclusive practice, teaching and career development (for teachers, students) that challenge conventional thinking. We've listened and there will be opportunities to meet with those who are leading and others who want to be part of and build networks of teachers. These will be published closer to Conference).

There will be stuff to SEE and LOOK at at the Conference Venue and in Christchurch

There will be a wide array of static and engaging displays during refreshment breaks when delegates will be able to 'chill and chat' or 'grab and go' [bring your own resuable cup and food container for maximum freedom]. We have lots of vendors and institutions willing to showcase products and resources and inspire. There will be some exciting exhibitions, some curated onsite during conference, and many opportunities to collect ideas - so remember to bring your adapters, chargers and usbs so you don't run out of battery / storage space.

There will be stuff to VISIT and EXPERIENCE

Ōtautahi Christchurch – It’s time for us to share and celebrate our wonderful city with our wider community. There will be tours of galleries, studios, and virtual tours of the red zone and rebuild schools.
