Step 1: Choose a pop or music theatre style 1 minute cut of a song. This is usually a verse and a chorus or a bridge and a chorus. Think of music that suits either the style of the show. Music from the show itself is allowed. Don't over think this and don't feel like you need to ask the director if your song choice is "okay". If you like it, and it showcases your abilities, then go with it!
Step 2: Make a video of you that includes your slate and you singing your song
"Hi! My name is _________ and I'll be singing __________ written by _________. "
You should find a karaoke backing track on youtube to sing a long with. It is always best to sing with accompaniment rather than a capella. Make sure your video is clean and exhibits your best work. It should be well lit and the adjudicator should be able to hear you clearly. Some helpful hints:
Always film in landscape orientation
Use a separate device to play your backing track than your phone
Take more than one take! you get to submit your BEST!
Be mindful of framing. The singing video should be a centered camera from waist up. If you don't have access to a tripod, have someone help you!
Step 4: Submit your finished vocal audition to this form no later than Wednesday August 7th 5PM.
Callbacks will occur by appointment first week of class in August.
