Rules for a School Band
If your school rock/pop bands are anything like mine have been over the last 12 or so years they are the most anarchic and creative fun you can have with a bunch of crazy and talented kids. But I've learnt the hard way that there has to be some rules and shared understandings from Day 1
1) We are a tribe.
It doesn't matter which class, house or year group you are from. When we come together to practice and play, that's all that matters. We'll find a name and logo soon enough to help with this concept.
2) No band boyfriend/girlfriend relationships.
If you fancy someone else in the school band, cool. Save it until high school or beyond. It's probably got a better chance of working out. then anyway. I'll even come to your wedding. What we don't need right now is a singer crying in one corner while the guitarists just about come to blows over her affections.
3) Turn up, Set Up, Tune Up.
Time is short. Let's not spend the first 15 minutes of a 1 hour block fafffing about.
4) Don't Be "that person"
Refusing to play a certain song or genre because it's not your taste
Having a go at other band members when they make mistakes
Thinking that your contribution to the band is more important that others.
