At Ascension, there are a multitude of sports offered and the performing arts extra-curriculars (plays, musicals, choir) have increased. All of these activities build, as they are designed to, community, leadership and teamwork, transferable physical skills, etc., just to name a few. But there is still a distinct lack of opportunities for individual self-expression, fine motor skills, communication, and emotional processing. Not that the current opportunities reject these principles but they are not the focus. It is vital that students practice and develop these other skills in order to make more well-rounded individuals. Most, if not all, of the school activities currently offered are completely group-centric and this would be an offering where students would work around like-interest individuals but the results or “product” will typically be independent of one another.
