Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) comprises of intrusive repetitive thoughts which leads to compulsions. These thoughts are often "irrational", even through the perspective of the patient, but they still cause immense anxiety for the sufferer. There are 12 subsets of OCD: religious, just right, harm, symmetry, pure-obsession, sexual, contamination, somatic, checking, hoarding, numerical, and miscellaneous (more information about each can be found under the "Information About OCD" section).
Religious
Religious OCD primarily revolves around compulsions relating to the patient's religion or moral standards. The patient usually engages in compulsions after fearing that they might have committed a sin or broken a rule in their religion.
Just Right
"Just Right OCD" is the name given to the type of OCD that occurs when the patient feels discomfort by the feeling that something is not correct. There is no specific anxiety that drives these compulsions but rather the discomfort felt by the "incorrect" thing.
Harm
There are two types of Harm OCD. The first type is fearing harm coming to close friends or family based on external forces. The second is fearing that you (the patient) will harm others. The second type is often hidden because the patient is afraid of telling people about their violent thoughts, even though the patient knows that these thoughts have no basis in reality.
Somatic
Somatic OCD is associated with obsessions about the body, bodily functions, or body parts.
Pure-Obsession
Pure-Obsessional OCD commonly referred to as "Pure-O" OCD, revolves around mental obsessions and compulsions.
Sexual
Sexual OCD relates to having intrusive sexual obsessions. These unwanted obsessions cause anxiety resulting in compulsions.
Contamination
Contamination OCD is one of the most common types of OCD. It revolves around the fear of being "contaminated" by substances.
Symmetry
Symmetry OCD relates to having anxiety over uneven or unbalanced objects. This anxiety results in compulsions
Checking
Checking OCD primarily revolves around checking and rechecking things. The checking compulsions are sometimes caused by the anxiety of other types of OCD such as harm.
Hoarding
Hoarding OCD relates to the patient hoarding/collecting different objects. It is caused by the anxiety that the object might be helpful in the future.
Numerical
Numerical OCD relates to anxiety around different numbers. This causes subsequent compulsions.
Miscellaneous
Miscellaneous OCD is any compulsions that don't fit into the subsets above.
