Syllabus: Working Equitation Judge Education Course National Judge Level
Course Description:
This course is designed for current ANWE Regional level judges with a minimum of 4 years’ experience judging, who are interested in becoming National Working Equitation Judge Education.
Areas to be covered:
Principles of Classical Equitation,
Common riding definitions,
Know the three common gaits of walk, trot, and canter,
Dressage exercises – the how and why of the movements found in the ANWE / WAWE dressage tests
ANWE / WAWE Ease of Handling Rules,
The role of the judge, and how to apply scores.
Course Objectives:
• Prepare judges for judging at National level and the dressage phase of Working Equitation.
• Develop knowledge of riding.
• Develop an understanding of how to score obstacle movements at different levels.
• Have understanding and insight into the competition process

Accreditation Requirements:
• Attend the National Judge Education programme
• Written Assessment – Level 2
• Video judging assessment – Ease of Handling and Dressage tests
• Continuing professional development comprising two online update sessions per year
• Judging minimum three times a year
Policies and Expectations:
• Attendance: Participants are expected to participate in the National Judge education programme every two years and two online or in person update or professional development clinics each year.
• International WAWE judge clinics – participants are expected to attend ANWE provided clinics with International judges when reasonably possible
• Participants are expected to follow the ANWEL Code of Conduct.

Throughout the course, the following topics will be covered:
• The Technical Aspects of Riding
• The Gaits of the horse
• Common dressage terms such as tempo, regularity, cadence, rhythm, impulsion
• ANWE Ease of Handling Rulebook 2024
• The Collective marks: paces/rider/submission/navigation
• ANWE and WAWE Dressage tests and movements
