ME 3302: Automation in Manufacturing 2026

Lecture 1 and Lecture 2 : Introduction to manufacturing systems, Automation strategies.

Lecture 3 and Lecture 4: Product-production relationships, Manufacturing metrics and economics

Lecture 5 and Lecture 6: Elements of Automation, Hardware components in Automation

Project Proposal (Due: Feb 6, 2026):
Make a group of maximum 4 people (which shall persist for the course project)

and report a case study of automation of manufacturing processes in any manufacturing industry – where the automation need to be adaptable and not just do repetitive or pre-programmed tasks:

1.The choice of the manufacturing should have potential to be evolved into a course project.

2.Relate to some of the concepts from Chapter 1 of the textbook and first two lectures, such as, quantity of production, level of automation, why it made sense to automate instead of using manual labor – or why not?

3.Prepare a maximum two page report on the case study – conciseness is the key – self-made figures and visualization to explain the process and automation, and need for adaptability in the solution. This will be worth 5% of the final grade.

Submit the project proposal report at form link (only one member of each group should fill this form.).
