If you want a lightweight, corrosion-resistant solution for hauling moderate loads on a mid-size SUV like the Equinox or Terrain, choose ANTS PART Roof Rack Cross; if you need maximum load capacity, anti-theft locking mechanisms, and aerodynamic quietness for heavy gear on a Volkswagen Tiguan or Taos, choose KINGGERI Roof Rack Cross.
• This pick is for owners of 2010–2017 Chevrolet Equinox or GMC Terrain vehicles who prioritize simplicity and weight savings.
• This pick is for VW Tiguan or Taos drivers tackling mountain driving with heavy bikes, kayaks, or camping setups who need extra security and capacity.
The ANTS PART roof rack crossbars are engineered specifically for the 2010 through 2017 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with factory side rails. What makes this set compelling is its focus on material integrity without unnecessary bulk. Constructed from high-strength marine-grade aluminum alloy, these bars promise durability against the elements. If you live in an area with harsh winters or coastal salt air, the rustproof and corrosion-resistant finish is a genuine design feature that protects your investment over time. The black finish provides a sleek, low-profile look that doesn't scream "utility" but rather blends into the vehicle's aesthetic while doing the job.
For the driver who values ease of use above all else, the installation process here is straightforward. The product description emphasizes that no drilling or cutting is required, and all necessary hardware comes included in the package. You get two crossbars, four mounting towers, and clear instructions. This means you can assemble and remove them quickly when they aren't needed. The clamping design ensures a secure fit onto the existing factory rails, giving you peace of mind that your cargo won't shift during normal highway driving. However, you must have the factory side rails; these bars do not attach directly to the bare roof.
That capacity is more than enough for a pair of skis, a few snowboards, a couple of bicycles, or a medium-sized cargo box. It is the ideal choice for weekend warriors who head out for mountain driving or family trips but don't carry oversized equipment every single day. However, if you plan to haul heavy ladders or large quantities of camping gear regularly, this specific model might feel limiting. Furthermore, there are no built-in tie-down loops mentioned in the specifications, so you will need to rely on separate straps to secure loose items directly to the bars.

The KINGGERI roof rack crossbars are built for a different tier of utility, specifically targeting owners of the Volkswagen Tiguan (2018–2026) and Taos (2022–2026) who need serious hauling power. This is double the capacity of many standard racks, making it a robust choice for those who frequently transport heavy outdoor gear. Whether you are loading up for a mountain driving expedition with multiple bikes, a kayak, or a full camping setup, this rack is designed to handle the stress without flexing or compromising safety.
Security is another major pillar of this design. Unlike simpler clamps, this system features an upgraded metal mechanism lock system. This adds a layer of anti-theft protection that is crucial when leaving your vehicle unattended at trailheads or campgrounds. The brackets themselves combine high-quality plastic with a metal locking core, balancing weight and durability. While the plastic components keep the overall weight manageable relative to the load, the metal mechanism ensures the connection remains tight and tamper-resistant. Additionally, the inclusion of tie-down loops on all four brackets is a thoughtful detail often missing in budget-friendly alternatives. These loops allow you to cinch down items tightly without worrying about straps slipping off the smooth bar surface, which is essential when carrying irregular shapes like tents or bulky luggage.
Aerodynamics play a significant role in the daily driving experience of this rack. The profile is designed to reduce wind resistance, which translates to less noise inside the cabin at highway speeds. For families taking road trips, this reduction in wind noise can make a noticeable difference in comfort. The width of the crossbar is adjustable, and the units are labeled front and back to eliminate any guesswork during assembly. This adaptability helps ensure a perfect fit across the varying roof widths of the Tiguan and Taos models. It is heavier to lift and store than lighter alternatives, and the larger footprint might interfere with sunroofs or specific roof configurations if not measured carefully.
• Best for Rust Resistance → ANTS PART Roof Rack Cross: The marine-grade aluminum and explicit rustproof coating make it superior for long-term exposure to moisture and road salt.
• Best Security Features → KINGGERI Roof Rack Cross: The metal mechanism lock system and tie-down loops offer tangible security advantages for valuable gear left overnight.
• Best for Wind Noise Reduction → KINGGERI Roof Rack Cross: The aerodynamic design is explicitly marketed to minimize noise, a critical factor for long highway drives.
• Best for Vehicle Fitment Specifics → Match the Brand to the Model: ANTS PART is strictly for 2010–2017 Chevy/GMC; KINGGERI is strictly for 2018+ VW Tiguan/Taos. They are not interchangeable due to unique rail designs.
• Best for Ease of Strap Securing → KINGGERI Roof Rack Cross: The integrated tie-down loops simplify securing cargo compared to finding external anchor points.
• Best for Simplicity of Installation → Both: Both claim no-drill, tool-assisted assembly, but the labeling on the KINGGERI unit helps prevent orientation errors.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would personally buy the KINGGERI Roof Rack Cross if my primary goal was preparing my vehicle for serious mountain driving. The aerodynamic design also promises a quieter ride, which matters when you are spending hours on the road. While the ANTS PART option is excellent for its target vehicles and offers great value for light duty, the KINGGERI unit feels more robust and purpose-built for the demands of adventure travel where safety and capacity are paramount.
No, both products require factory-installed side rails to mount securely. The ANTS PART bars clamp onto existing rails on the Equinox and Terrain, while the KINGGERI bars are designed specifically for the side rails on the VW Tiguan and Taos.
Both sets come with the necessary installation tools and hardware. Neither requires drilling or cutting, allowing for a quick assembly and removal process without professional help.
The KINGGERI Roof Rack Cross includes a metal mechanism lock system and tie-down loops, offering significantly more security features than the standard clamping design of the ANTS PART bars.
The KINGGERI model is explicitly designed with an aerodynamic shape to minimize wind resistance and noise. The ANTS PART bars are low-profile but do not highlight specific wind-noise-reduction engineering in their specifications.
