Ants Legacy was a website that me and dAwGy designed in 2009 (dAwGy also has his own website, which is the official Ants website). We wanted to bring awareness that Microsoft Ants was still alive and kicking (At that time Microsoft Ants population hovered around 60-40 active players)! I desperately wanted to bring that magic back in my childhood days, ultimately wanting that same sitting on the edge of your seat feeling. It was an exhilarating feeling, strategizing and outwitting your opponents with every move. I remember how much I look forward to playing ants after school. You can say I was antsy to play! And for those of you who have no idea what Microsoft Ants was, here is a brief description below!
Microsoft Ants was a strategy multiplayer (2-4 Players) PC game. It was one of the highly marketed PC games on MSN Gaming Zone. The game primary objective was to obtain the most points at the end of the game. Whichever player or team obtain the most points at the end of game, wins. To accumulate points you had to collect food scattered across the game. But not all food had the same value points and there were limited amount of food, meaning Ants of different colony (colony were differentiated by color of the ants) had to fight each other for the limited resources (food and powerups). The powerups gave ants special power such as a Combat Ant that can fling opponent's ants (also can automatically fling opponent's ants nearby without a command). Swim Ant that can go in the water and build/destroy a bridge on water. Fire Ant that can build and extinguish fire. A Bomb Ant that can set and diffuse bombs and a Thief Ant that can steal points from the opponent. Players would strategicially execute their game plan on attacks, defending base, and even their food supply. You can play this as a single player, but the game was meant to compete against other players. Typical Microsoft Ants games were 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 match, which were typically top vs bottom matches. Of course there were other type of matches like Free-For-All games and very rarely side vs side games, varying on the map. The most popular map players play was Treasure.
The Ants Legacy website was also launched to promote an upcoming major Ants inaugural tournament (Ants Championship Tournament) and to lure old Anters to participate in this event. The website eventually was removed in late 2015 due to not renewing its contract with the web host. However, due to nostalgia I decided to bring back the website on May 2025. The website will serve to the Ants community of the past (and maybe the future!), ultimately creating network and reconnecting with other Anters. Ants Legacy will continue to carrying on the Legacy.
