Antonio M. Espín is an EMERGIA Senior Researcher at the University of Granada (Department of Applied Economics) since March 2023 and Co-founder and Chief Research Officer at Kodo People since May 2022. Prior to these positions, he was post-doctoral researcher at University of Granada and Middlesex University London. He holds a degree in Economics and obtained his PhD in Behavioral Economics from the University of Granada, under the supervision of Pablo Brañas-Garza. Dr. Espín was visiting PhD student at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (supervisor: Rosemarie Nagel) and University of Nottingham (supervisor: Simon Gächter).
His main research interests are focused on the psychological and biological underpinnings of human social behavior, including the analysis of the ultimate and proximate explanations of cooperation and norm-enforcement mechanisms. He is also interested in non-social elements of behavior, such as time preferences, risk preferences, and cognitive ability. Dr. Espín's research combines theoretical and empirical, mainly experimental, methods.
During the EMERGIA period, he will lead the project "Looking forward: From the individual to the firm, the network, and the economy (LOOKINGFORWARD)", in which his team will study the impact of behavioral interventions that manipulate the time preferences of employees on companies' performance.
Dr. Espín has published his (eminently multidisciplinary) work in outstanding academic journals such as Experimental Economics, Journal of Economic Psychology, Evolutionary Human Sciences, Proceedings of the Royal Society B, European Economic Review, Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics, Journal of Happiness Studies, Biology Letters, Evolution and Human Behavior, Nature Scientific Reports, Psychoneuroendocrinology, and Perspectives on Psychological Science.
He has been co-founder of two companies in the private sector (past: JAMEN SL., now: Kodo People) and currently is Board Member of the Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics (SABE) and the Society for the Advancement of Judgment and Decision-making Studies (SEJyD). Creator and Leader of Behave4 Diagnosis and SABE Replication Network (SABERN).
He is Associate Editor at Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics and Journal of Behavioral Economics for Policy and has been Guest Editor at Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, and Frontiers in Psychology.
