Antiracism & Ayurveda
What we can do, as Ayurvedic students, counselors, practitioners, doctors, educators, and institutions. This is hardly a comprehensive list but a broad and belated starting point, depending on scope of practice:
Encourage our communities and institutions (including NAMA and our schools) to evolve in specific ways to not only meet but exceed the needs of the moment and Black Lives Matter movement
Establish community clinics and other accessible means of providing Ayurvedic education and care for BIPOC, who are critically underrepresented in most Ayurvedic schools and businesses
Serve as street medics at protests - click here for "The Herbalist Street Medic" by 7Song
Offer Ayurvedic workshops on Herbal First Aid and other topical subjects, focusing on herbs that are bioregionally available and practices that are inclusive
Vote - not just in local and national elections but in NAMA's board elections, for example
Do not normalize Hindu fascism, eg glorifying Modi and the BJP, celebrating International Yoga Day without critical consideration of its origins, etc - work to dismantle white supremacy AND Hindu fundamentalism within our Ayurvedic community
Support black businesses - black Ayurvedic students, counselors, practitioners, doctors, educators, herbal suppliers, and the like - Robert Svoboda is creating a directory to amplify the work of BIPOC
