This episode is my favourite for a variety of reasons, one of which being that it’s got something for everyone, including comedy, character and a great send off for the show’s host, Joel.
This episode is consistently funny and has some of the best riffs in the entire series. Some episodes can be inconsistent or be funny in the first half but weaken over the rest of the episode, Mitchell never has this issue and is very funny the whole way through. This episode is very notable for being Joel’s final episode and the first episode featuring Mike Nelson as himself. It is also one of the first episodes featuring Gypsy in an important role which I love, because Gypsy is an amazing character. This episode is also the first one featuring a Joe Don Baker movie. The movie isn’t awful but the main character is horribly miscast so Joel and the bots get a lot of hilarious material out of it. This episode, as mentioned earlier, was the final appearance as host from Joel, and he gets a great send off. It is sad while also having some good comedy in it. This segment is written very well and also does a good job of transitioning into the new host without it feeling jarring.
Sadly I’m not such a huge fan of the other host segments in the episode. They aren’t really funny and only focus on one thing, however this is just a small complaint in an otherwise great episode.
