Fractals and Chaos Theory – The jagged, organic quality of the form evokes fractal-like structures, which are self-similar patterns found in nature and mathematics. This could connect to the idea of chaotic systems where small changes lead to complex outcomes.
With my work, I explore the impossibility of translating experience to canvas. The subjects of my paintings are surrounded by their physical world, and also the unseen forces at work: air currents, light waves, heat transfers, all displayed in its complexity. Though parts may appear chaotic, they are all part of a system that is balanced.
Title: What Kind of Vine
This small vine grows and ripens in an unusual way: without a defined stem and with a strange relationship between its roots, leaves, and fruits. It extends in a serpentine pattern of grapes, where some areas are densely intertwined while others remain nearly empty. The grapes seem to "jump" and cluster unpredictably. Moreover, in certain areas, they ripen quickly, while in others, the process takes much longer, as if growth gets "stuck" in some spots before suddenly surging forward in others. This phenomenon follows a yet unknown pattern, possibly influenced by factors such as nutrient composition, chemical signals in the environment, radiation, or even the presence of a parasitic microorganism.
