Dance Team Tryout FAQ's:
What team am I trying out for?
Tryouts for the Performance (Fall)
May 31-June 2
Tryouts for the Competition (Winter)
May 16-18
*While it is not the norm that dancers only do one season we have had student athletes, for example, an athlete who plays volleyball, soccer or runs cross country in the fall only do winter competitive season, or if athletes play hockey in the winter, they only do our fall performance season.
What should I do to be prepared for tryouts?
How many people make it?
This is different each year! At auditions in the spring, dancers are simply selected for the team as a whole. Winter placements for Varsity, JV, and B-Squad are done at the beginning of each winter season.
What is the time commitment to be on the dance team
All summer training is optional but definitely encouraged. There are various technique and master classes as well as team bonding experiences that take place over the course of the June & July months.
Our fall season runs from mid-August to mid-October and practices after school. Fall will learn hip-hop, jazz, and pom dances.
The winter season runs from the end of October to mid-February and practices 5 days a week after school. Dancers may be moved between teams after tryouts as determined by coaches on performance, attitude, and practices. For varsity teams, later in the season there may be a reevaluation of alternates or current members to make the best placements for the team and dancers.
Both Performance and Competitive Teams will have many Saturday commitments for invites and competitions.
