Action research is an iterative process of inquiry where the researcher is both subject and director. Action researchers examine their own practice, identify a problem they wish to pursue in order to create change, develop cycles in order to solve the problem, reflect and react to each cycle. Action research is a never-ending process because it is continuously working towards self-improvement and leadership in your community of practice. One enters into an action research process because they see a possibility of how his/her field of action can be better and pursues that in various ways making sure to reflect, evaluate and improve over time. The researcher benefits from both being an instigator and identifier of a problem as well as being able to create change.
As I begin my action research, my inquiry question was: "How do I engage all of my students in the learning process?"
Remove the possibility of a below average grade
Allow students to redo work as many times as possible until a deadline
Partner with students to create the rubrics used to assess their learning
How do my students and I help a new teacher learn what I am learning about teaching and learning?
