artist bio:
Annemarie Baldauf is an artist that works solely in 3D printing using an iPad to create the 3D printed sculptures. She lives and works in San Ramon, Califorinia and received her BFA from San Francisco Art Institute & MFA from The California College of the Arts in Oakland. artist statement:

These 3D mono printed collage/sculptures were made on an iPad Pro in a 3D modeling program, sent to a slicing program on my computer that then writes it in a G-code that is sent to my 3D printer that reads the code/algorithm and "prints" the sculpture I built on the iPad. Complicated, simple process that expresses the thoughts and feelings I have. These miniature sculptures are downloaded and uploaded, changed, downloaded and uploaded, several times, printed, and reprinted. They are sculpture mono 3D prints. The amount of detail, exactness, you can get working so small is exciting and unique to this medium.

Small, precise and personal; it draws the viewer closer, creating a one to one close connection.

I worked with my hands/fingers when I first started in ceramics at 5 and now I work with my hands/fingers on an iPad creating STL files, NSF art, G-codes, files, mono prints to be 3D printed with the same creative language expressing my experience as a human in this world.

These are 3D printed sculptures designed on an iPad in a 3D modeling program and printed on a 3D printer from a 2D slicing program.

These miniature sculptures are downloaded and uploaded, changed, downloaded and uploaded several times until they are complete.

I have been working in 3D printing for over 5 years. I was working in 3D printing before the pandemic and then only worked in 3D printing since.

Previously I painted watercolor collages of my family.

Previous to that I made large scale mosaics on buildings.

Previous to that I drew car crashes with botanical illustrations

Previous to that I made handmade paper and abstract ceramic sculptures.

I started out in ceramics when I was 6 and got degrees from SFAI and CCA in California.

The ideas I use are time, health, home, family, people, houses, space, depression, stress, color, death, symbols, expressions,& QR codes. All my artwork has always been self-portraits of where I am in my mind in this world at the time they are made.

I love the process of 3D printed sculptures as it is a new frontier and my interpretation of what it can be is anything. I can make these anywhere and anytime… The amount of detail, exactness, you can get working so small is exhilarating/unique to this medium. I love small, precise and personal. It draws the viewer closer. A one to one connection.

I like working in multiples, printing the STL file several times and changing the files and color and size they are printed. a true mono-print

This 3D print was made on the iPad in a 3D modeling program, sent to a slicing program on my computer that writes it in a G-code, that is sent to the 3D printer, that reads the code/algorithm, "prints" the sculpture, (that Jack built) that Annemarie built on the iPad.

This miniature 3D printed collage was made by downloading and uploading, changing the drawing on the iPad,  downloading and uploading, several times, printing, reprinting until the colors and drawings are right for each part of the print from each side and depth. The amount of detail, exactness, precision, you can get working so small is exciting, unique to this medium and working with color layers challenging. It's an original process with original pieces.  The results are limited by the printing process , filament and can lead to accidental, controlled, beauty, with this medium. Small, precise and personal, it draws the viewer closer. A one to one close connection made by a machine operated and controlled by a human.

Time has always been a theme of my artwork. “1123 RunningTime” is a 3D printed collage of a clock within a clock, running to keep up, running in circles and the background a QR code pattern/life pattern. Metallic colors - warm and cold.

“225 Time House Compartments” is a 3D printed colorful sculpture with time/clocks, houses/homes, different homes/houses that I live in/ lived in at different times/ my history with large people walking/moving in the home compartments/maze. A home how it feels to be surrounded by walls with a floor and open not outside/not inside.
