Goal 1: Professional Experience

Butler Children's Literature Center

Outcome 1c. Participate in professional activities and associations, such as professional conferences and meetings, internships and practicums, and professional email discussions and social media. 

I have been an advocate for youth for my entire career as a middle school and high school teacher and now as an Assistant Librarian at Longfellow Elementary School in Oak Park, Illinois. Some of my duties include readers’ advisory, book processing, and repair, genrefying the fiction section, deselecting books, creating book displays, and being a mystery reader.  In addition to my Longfellow work, I interned at the Butler Children’s Literature Center for the 2023-2024 school year. One of my main responsibilities at Butler was writing book reviews for recently published books and posting them on the Butler’s Pantry blog. An example of one review I wrote was of the book The Deep Dark by Molly Knox Ostertag, and I created daily social media posts encouraging students and staff to explore all of the exciting new books that were arriving each day.
