Biography
Anna N. Sims, lyric soprano, is a rising senior pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Fisk University, where she studies with Dr. Cordelia Anderson.
Anna is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is recognized for her performances in opera, art song, spirituals, and musical theatre.
Recent appearances include solo performances at Fisk University’s Steinway Performance Series featuring the works of Franz Schubert, the Burleigh Festival at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and the ACDA Conference in Chattanooga, where she performed a solo in Zion’s Walls. Additional solo appearances include Fisk University’s Convocation and Annual Honors Convocation, as well as performances at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center and other community concert events.
Sims is a member of the Grammy-nominated Fisk Jubilee Singers® under the direction of Dr. G. Preston Wilson and has toured nationally with both the Fisk Jubilee Singers and Fisk University Choir. As a featured soloist with the Fisk Jubilee Singers, she regularly performs spiritual repertoire in concert, including featured solos on Couldn’t Hear Nobody Pray and Trampin’. Notable appearances include performances at Nashville’s historic Parthenon.
A former Nashville Opera HBCU Fellow, Sims received professional training through masterclasses, coaching, performances, and mentorship opportunities with leading artists in the field. Most recently, she was selected for the inaugural HBCU Opera & Musical Theater Summer Festival. As part of the festival, she participated in the first concert reading of Jubilee: A Folk Opera by Randy Klein and Joan Ross Sorkin at Yale University’s Schwarzman Center Dome. She later performed the principal role of Young Minna in the festival’s professional concert reading at Jackson State University and appeared in the Enslaved Chorus. In addition, she participated in a masterclass with acclaimed soprano Dr. Tiffany Jackson and was featured in the festival’s Student Showcase, performing Mozart’s “Batti, batti, o bel Masetto” accompanied by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and Edward Boatner's "I Want Jesus to Walk With Me" accompanied by Dr. Lester Green.
Her additional training includes masterclasses with Stephen Salters, Keri Alkema, Laura Benavides, Robert McNichols, and Tiffany Jackson. Sims was selected as a semifinalist in both the Classical and Musical Theatre divisions of the 2026 Mid-South Regional NATS Auditions.
