Hi, I'm Anna Beresford, and I'm honored to hold the titles of Miss United America, Miss New Britain Teen USA and Miss Congeniality. Pageantry has been a passion of mine, but beyond the crown, my mission is to raise awareness and foster conversations around mental health. In a world where mental health is often stigmatized, I want to remind others that they are never alone. There is always help and hope, and resources are available for those who need them.
In 2022, I lost someone very important to me - my best friend, who took her own life. She was the reason I was so dedicated to competing in Miss CT Teen USA, as I wanted to honor her (she helped me train for the pageant for months.) After her passing, I became even more determined to ensure that no one else feels alone. Her loss sparked my dedication to supporting others and spreading messages of hope.
Also, having faced my own mental health struggles, I understand what it feels like to be lost and isolated. If sharing my story or providing support can help even one person, I believe I've made a difference. Mental health is a cause close to my heart, and I am dedicated to spreading awareness, breaking the stigma, and empowering others to seek the help they deserve. I believe that no one should ever feel like they are fighting their battles alone. That's why I started Anna's Awareness Initiative, a program that has already reached over 7,500 people worldwide. It's my way of making sure that others know help is always available, and that recovery is possible.
In addition to my work in mental health advocacy, I'm also passionate about modeling and have been featured in several magazines. I love the creativity, expression, and empowerment that modeling brings, and I am grateful for the opportunites I've had to share my voice in that industry.
I'm also deeply passionate about working with kids. I regularly volunteer my time to mentor and work with children, as I believe it's essential to provide young people with the tools, love, and encouragement they need to grow into confident, compassionate individuals. Theses experiences have shaped who I am today and have given me the privilege to connect with so many incredible young people.
At present, I'm writing an autobiography to share more about my life, my adventures, and my journey. I hope that my story can inspire others to pursue their dreams and never give up, no matter the obstacles they face. I firmly believe that no goal is unattainable, and I will continue striving to make a difference in both my community and the world.
Looking to the future, I hope to pursue a career in journalism, writing for a newspaper or magazine. Writing is an essential part of who I am, and I plan to use it as a tool to educate, inspire, and advocate for mental health. I have already published two poetry collections: My Thoughts Unfiltered, which reflects the emotional rollercoaster of the pandemic, and Seasons of the Soul, where each section symbolizes a different emotional season.
Another thing about me is that in everything I do, I maintain a positive outlook. I believe that positivity and kindness can go a long way and are some of the most powerful tools we have to create change. I'm honored to have been nominated for a Person of the Year Award for philanthropy, which is a testament to the impact of the work I've been doing. It's not about the recognition; it's about making a real difference in people's lives.
Through every part of my journey, I remain committed to one goal: helping others. Whether it's through my work with mental health, my involvement in pageantry, or my passion for writing, I hope to inspire those who may be struggling to believe in themselves and know that they are not alone. Together, we can create a world where mental health is understood, valued, and treated with the care it deserves.
