An art teacher; an exceptional human that teaches the beauty in everyday life while building the self esteem of their students through creative problem solving. I am this teacher. In my art room students feel safe to express who they are and who they will become. As a culturally responsive teacher, I strive to develop an understanding of every student's cultural background, in order to create a classroom where each child feels accepted and seen.
It is my job to ensure that my students develop an appreciation for visual arts and understand the value it has in our world. I believe that the process of art making is key, while developing an understanding of the Elements and Principles of Design. Through the process of art making students will make mistakes and those mistakes will be celebrated. They will collaborate and problem solve to fix their errors.
I strongly believe in building positive relationships with my students. I am a passionate teacher, mentor, and artist. As I continue my career, I will self reflect and adapt to my students needs. I have taught approximately 9,000 students in the past 18 years. I look forward to continuing to touch the lives of many more in the future.
