I am a multimedia artist whose work reflects themes of history, memory and sentimentality. My recent body of work has focused on the idea of The House, using a variety of mediums to explore the value of everyday objects. A key aspect to my practice is working with a range of different processes simultaneously, which reflects the nature of everyday life.
I am influenced by unfinished spaces such as building sites, because they are often overlooked until they are finished. The found object is often the starting point for a piece, as I find inspiration in the history that it holds. Including these objects and reconstructing them using a variety of different mediums reflects the idea of giving new life to things, but the end result still doesn’t have to make sense. I enjoy the ambiguity that comes through the different processes within my practice; much of the meaning behind my work is non-physical.
The idea of past tense and temporality is important for the conception of my ideas that become visual markers and material interventions. Although the framework for my practice is citing the notion of memory, it is further commenting on its inconsistence and impermanence. Connection to history and the energy that the objects hold drives my making. Each material finds its way into the practice through negotiation of its presence in the studio and its value is transformed through different processes.
