About me:
I have lived in Tasmania since 2004, and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in 2021 at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. However, I have worked in a variety of other fields prior to this (see cv), and I draw on those past experiences in making art.
A common thread amongst my art is my interest in the natural world. I grew up on a farm in Western Australia with significant areas of native bushland, and all my life I have loved the outdoors and nature. I completed a degree in Botany and Zoology which gave me a scientific view of the biological world and the vast array of organisms which inhabit it. Hiking, rock climbing and occasional kayaking have taken me to places which stimulated my aesthetic sensibilities. I've seen huge stunning landscapes, but it is often the small items of nature that appeal to me- the intricate form of a plant cone or a lichen, the textures of bark and rock, the way light falls through grass stems. I also care passionately about environmental issues, and the damage we humans are causing.
My art reflects my love of nature, and I hope to engage audiences in that appreciation. I am excited by form and by materiality. I love shapes, textures, patterns. I am equally drawn to work in colour or in black and white. And to work in two or three dimensions. My areas of art work include photography, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. However, my two-dimensional works often betray my pleasure in sculptural form.
