PERA

Power Engineering Research and Application is a national workshop for the power engineering domain. It is a flagship event of the IEEE PES/IAS Joint Chapter, UP Section, and IEEE PES SBC IIT Kanpur. With the theme “Real-time digital simulations,” its first version was organized in 2018. The event was attended by nearly 100 participants. It was supported by PES, IAS, and industry sponsors. The event was the first student-led national workshop by the chapter. I was a member of the core organizing committee of PERA 18. The next version is due in 2020.

UP PES IAS Congress

It is a student-led flagship event of the IEEE PES/IAS Joint Chapter, UP section, focused on providing a common platform to PES and IAS members of the section. The first version of the congress was organized in association with IEEE PES SBC IIT Kanpur. I was the chairperson of the event. UPPESIAS 2019, organized on September 21, 2019, was supported by IEEE YP, IEEE UP Section, and industry sponsors. The event was a great success and laid the foundation for many activities of the chapter.

PRAKET Talk Series

As a vice-chair of the IEEE PES student chapter at IIT Kanpur, I initiated the PRAKET talk series. Motivated by the idea that “Knowledge increases by sharing but not by saving,” IEEE PES SBC IIT Kanpur has initiated a lecture series named “Praket: The Knowledge Window.” Praket (प्रकेत) is a Sanskrit word which means knowledge or intelligence. Praket is a volunteer-driven initiative to create a platform where students can enhance their knowledge and skills by sharing them with fellow campus students. According to the needs and interests of students, the lecture series is divided into three categories—technical basics, technical experts, and non-technical. In Praket, any postgraduate student can volunteer as a speaker and share his understanding of the topic of his/her own choice.

IEEE UP SSAC Workshop

The IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section Student Activity Committee (IEEE UP SSAC) workshop is an initiative of the section’s student activity committee. It aims to create a learning platform for the student members of the section. The first version of the series was organized from January 8 to January 11, 2021, and supported the IEEE UP Section financially. At this event, four student branches collaborated and organized a total of 12 seminars, including technical and non-technical topics. More than 350 participants had registered for this virtual event. I contributed to the initiative as the workshop coordinator.

IEEE UP Graduate Talk Series

The IEEE UP Graduate Talk Series is an initiative of the IEEE UP Section to enhance the membership experience of IEEE members. It presents a unique opportunity for the PhD students in the section to share their knowledge and ideas with the engineering and research community. To the audience, it offers a glimpse of the ongoing research in different domains. While it provides an opportunity for the speaker to fine-tune their soft skills to the audience, it also helps in understanding the vast scope of the field as well as guidance for their career planning. It presents a fantastic networking opportunity for both, and it will strengthen the research community. I had proposed this event, and with the due approval of the section authorities, we launched it in October 2021.

IEEE Student member social network

After joining the IEEE UP Section Executive Committee as an SSR, I focused on connecting with student members of the section. For the same, I utilized several social media platforms and enotice. As a result of the efforts, today, the section has active social media student groups (and pages) on WhatsApp, Facebook, LinkedIn, Telegram, etc. I have been successful in connecting (and bringing) more than 500 student members (from different student branches of the section) to these platforms. Through these platforms, the student community shares information and opportunities related to IEEE activities. This has also contributed to an increased number of activities and their reporting throughout the section.

Technical Hands-on Workshop Series

The technical hands-on workshop series is an initiative of the IEEE UP Section to apprise the students of the latest technological advancements. Such know-how always helps the engineering students to choose the technology of their choice and prepares them for professional challenges ahead. With this motive, a two-day workshop series with hands-on was launched. In the first phase of the series in June-July 2021, a total of 5 workshops have been organized. The experts from both industry and academia participated in the event and shared their experience and know-how with the IEEE members. The experts conducted 4 hours of the exhaustive hands-on session online to allow the students to make an easy start with the technology. My role in the initiative was that of the coordinator.

U10 Inititives

U10 Initiative 2021 of the IEEE UP Section was launched with the intention of activating the most potential and yet dormant IEEE members and units towards greater participation. The entire idea is that greater participation would mean membership retention, and membership retention would mean greater membership. Under the U10 initiative, units of the IEEE UP section were requested to send their plans for organizing at least ten (10) activities in the whole year. This proved to be very motivating for the various student units of the IEEE UP section. They not only held ten (10) planned activities but also continued with the momentum and planned many more activities. The U10 initiative has been one of the most successful initiatives that have led to increased membership, particularly among graduate students. A total of more than 250 activities have been organized and reported under this initiative. I have contributed as the coordinator of this initiative.

Volunteer training session series

For the proper functioning of the IEEE units, it is very necessary that the volunteers at the root level understand the working of the IEEE. It is therefore that this time the student activity committee of the IEEE UP section decided to hold training sessions at periodic intervals so that the newly joined volunteers of IEEE may get accustomed to the working environment of IEEE. It is with this objective that the series of volunteer training sessions were initiated by the IEEE UP section. The volunteer training sessions were organized separately for counsellors of the student branches, student branch chairs, office bearers of the student branches and new members of the IEEE. The advantage of the volunteer training session was that student participation increased. As a member of the Student Activity Committee and Convener of the StB/StBC/StBAG Operations and Coordination Sub-Committee, IEEE UP Section, I have served as the organizer and coordinator of this initiative.

Activity based incentive award

In keeping with the IEEE R10 activity-based incentive program for sections, the IEEE UP Section has introduced an activity-based incentive award to recognize the section's top-performing student branches. In this imitative, all the branches doing well receive a certificate from the section, while the top five branches also receive financial awards as well. The initiative was launched in 2019, and since then, I have contributed to the initiative as its coordinator.
