Anja Smith

Development Economist

I am a postdoctoral researcher at Research on Socio-Economic Policy (ReSEP) at the Economics Department of Stellenbosch University, South Africa. My PhD considered topics related to the financing, delivery and user acceptability of healthcare in South Africa, in particular in maternal health and tuberculosis (TB). My postdoctoral research examines questions on the measurement of quality of healthcare and access to contraception and reproductive care for vulnerable women. Increasingly, my health work will move in the direction of the fetal origins of development and fertility decisions and patterns.

I have an insatiable sense of curiousity about all topics related to development. Some of my current research projects (not yet listed on this site) are therefore on topics related to the economics of education and the performance and monitoring of education systems.

More information on my research projects and publications can be found on the 'Research' page of this site.
