The protection of blade from hot flue gases is one of the challenges associated with the increasing gas turbine operating temperatures for improved thermal efficiency and power output. Highly complex flow and thermal field within the turbine make it further challenging. Film cooling is one of the preferred methods for effective cooling of a gas turbine that needs to be upgraded to meet the demand of high operating conditions. Here, the potential of “Mist” as a coolant for enhancing film cooling effectiveness has been investigated along with its dynamics.The observations are reported in ASME GT INDIA 2017, ThermaComp 2018 and ACFM 2019. Results show that mist significantly improves cooling effectiveness where its dependency on dynamics is also resolved. The research community has also appreciated the work with the “Ronald W. Lewis Award”.

Electrostatic Spray Nozzle
Even coating and reduced overspray with minimal use of liquid is tried to achieve through the electrostatic spray nozzle. It is used to spraying pesticides in the agricultural field, disinfectant for sanitization, and paints for coating. In electrostatic spray nozzle, finely distributed charged droplets are generated through the pneumatic atomization and electrostatic induction charging. A detailed drawing and working principle of the electrostatic spray nozzle is modeled in this project.

Customization of Obsolete Tool Inventory
Non-moving, slow-moving and excess tool becomes obsolete in long-term being detrimental to the cost of tool inventory. The problem of these obsolete tool inventory is addressed in this project by initiating the consumption process through customization. The probable location for alternative use is identified by field survey, and then the required modifications are done on tools to make it suitable for shop trials. A significant number of tools with substantial inventory costs were consumed while ensuring the quality of the manufactured product. The shortage issue of the tools was also addressed.

Seven Step Problem Solving Method
In this study, a seven-step problem-solving method is implemented for the resolution of a technical issue. It is one of the effective problem-solving processes within a stipulated time. Problem-solving is the act of defining a problem; determining the sources of the problem; identifying, prioritizing, and selecting alternatives for a solution; and implementing a solution. This project involves cross-departmental team building, brainstorming sessions with the team and leading the team to resolve the issue with active follow ups.

Stress Analysis of Railway Wheel
This work is done as a graduate project, where stress analysis of the S-shaped railway wheel is performed. The wheel is one of the most important and safety-critical components of a Railway vehicle, i.e., most intensively loaded. It is subjected to different kinds of loads such as static, dynamic and thermal load that dictate the performance and life of the wheel. In this project influence of static and dynamic load is analyzed on the wheel in terms of induced static and thermal stresses that lead to the deformation of the wheel's profile.
