I am an Asian American and a U.S. Navy veteran. Born in 1968 in Canton, I moved to the U.S. in 1986. In 2004, with no prior brokerage experience, (Link)I founded Horizon Enterprise Real Estate, Inc. (“HERE”) from my tiny kitchen in a 450-square-foot condo in downtown Seattle.
From the beginning, I knew the conventional brokerage model wasn’t an option—it required too many resources to build and maintain and wouldn’t have survived economic downturns. Instead, I built an unconventional model: a firm with no office, no active management, and a streamlined approach that allowed it to thrive. Over more than two decades, the firm facilitated over $10 billion in business volume. Though it didn’t make me rich, the journey gave me invaluable experience in innovation and sustainability.
I had no partner then. If I had, the firm could have achieved even greater success, benefiting more businesses and people.
Now, I am embarking on a new journey—to build an unconventional philanthropy model for helping distressed animals. Traditional animal rescue models are often unsustainable, just as the conventional brokerage model wasn’t viable for me. In the conventional approach, philanthropy groups rely on donations—asking for money, and that’s where it ends.
I am developing a partnership-driven approach, where businesses and animal welfare organizations collaborate for mutual benefit. Instead of relying solely on donations, I will help build lasting partnerships between businesses and these groups. By working together, rescue organizations can help businesses expand their clientele, while businesses provide ongoing financial and operational support. My business experience and expertise will be instrumental in creating these partnerships, ensuring that both sides thrive.
This model offers a sustainable, long-term solution—a true partnership that strengthens both businesses and animal rescue efforts while making a greater impact.
