Adopting Our Pets
Adopting a Cat from AHSEM
Thank you for your interest in adopting a cat from Animal House of SE Michigan. You can find all of our currently adoptable cats HERE.
Please note that some cats are listed as "bonded", this means that they have to be adopted with the other cat they are bonded to.
We also recommend that kittens 6 months and younger are adopted in pairs, or into a home that has at least one friendly cat already. Kittens thrive in pairs - check out this LINK to learn more.
At AHSEM we try our best to make the adoption process a smooth and easy transition for both you and the cats!
When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.
Our adoption fees are as follows:
$155 for a single cat or kitten
$195 for a pair of cats or kittens
Please note that we do not do same day adoptions and all adoption fees are non-refundable.
AHSEM Adoption Process
Find your new pet: Read about our cats online or come to the store to "visit" with them. If a cat you are interested is currently in a foster home, a meet and greet can be arranged. Please email us HERE to set up a meet and greet.
Apply: Once you find a cat(s) that you would like to adopt, we will have you complete an application (paper or online).
Timing: Our team of volunteers will respond to your application as quickly as possible, but please understand that wait times of up to a week should be anticipated. We appreciate your patience. If you have questions about your application feel free to email us at any time.
The Approval: Although we get many applications for each cat, we want to find the best match. All information entered on the adoption application must be accurate and truthful. Applicants should understand any misrepresentation of their information can result in the denial of the application. All approvals are at the discretion of the authorized representatives and completion of the from does not guarantee adoption.
Foster to Adopt: AHSEM treats every adoption as "foster to adopt" This means that the first two weeks in which you have the cat is the a trial period. We do our best to ensure the right match for all involved and want to give the cat(s) time to decompress and adapt to their new environment. However, we realize sometimes things don't work out as expected. Therefore, during that two-week period, if something doesn’t work out you can bring the cat back. We are also flexible if more time is needed to determine if its the right fit. We will always take our cats back even after the "foster to adopt" period. We would hate to see them end up at a kill shelter, abandoned, or any other unsafe situation.
Finalization: After the two week "foster to adopt" period concludes if you feel the cat is the right match - you will sign the final papers to gain full ownership of the cat! At this time you will also pay the adoption fee and receive the vet history paperwork.
