Anika Gauja

I am Professor of Politics in the Department of Government and International Relations, School of Social and Political Sciences, at the University of Sydney, Australia.

My research focuses on the contemporary challenges facing representative democracies, particularly the continuing role and relevance of political parties as vehicles for citizen participation and representation. My research has looked at the changing nature of party membership, and how parties can better adapt their organisations to keep pace with social and technological change. I study parties in a comparative context, and have undertaken research on political parties in Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, the United States, France and Germany.

I am also a specialist in Australian politics, comparative political institutions, political participation, as well as electoral law and political party regulation.

This site contains information on my research publications, projects and articles that I have published in the media.
