FilmImpact.net transitions are actual transitions, as opposed to overlays, effects, or effect presets. They can be applied to edit points, just like the native transitions in Premiere Pro. But unlike the native transitions, which have very few options for customization, FilmImpact.net transitions have lots of intuitive properties.

The versatility of FilmImpact.net video transitions is incredible! They work with video, stills, and graphics, such as titles, logos, lower thirds, etc. Additionally, FilmImpact.net transitions can be applied to HDR footage without cutting off color information.

Adjust the timing of the transition directly in the Timeline. No need to mess with keyframes or clip lengths; grab the transition and just slide it left or right. Double click the transition to enter a new duration.

FilmImpact.Net just released its new Transition Pack 1 for Premiere Pro. The new transition pack contains 10 transitions for CS5.5 and CS6. Transition Pack 1 is available for $19.99. The transitions include the following:

Once you've created your own transition by modifying the included tools in PrPro & saved as a preset, they show up in your presets folder and are drag/drop just like any other pack you can buy or acquire. No more fuss than the purchased ones.

As to packs of transitions, there are several, if you search long enough. LUTs, transitions/special effects, that sort of thing is pretty commonly available. You sometimes need to do a bit of searching though.

I've never installed or used the Film Impact transitions before, but I noticed their transitions are listed under video transitions in Premiere. It appears that they were included with the latest version. I have used a couple of them and they work. I was also able to export the video with the transitions and there were no watermarks. I received the error message telling me to run the Film Impact installer, but it seems to be working without running the installer. I'm not even sure where to find the installer... I did check out Film Impact's website but didn't see a reason to install their latest software so I'll pass for now.

I was having this issue and it was driving me nuts! I did however install the transition pack from Adobe Exchange and it worked fine until the latest update of premiere, it looks like Film Impact also updated their free transition pack..

Uninstalling from exchange did not work, same issue. So what I did was I went to this folder in my C drive:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore

Rome this folder and premiere should no longer throw this error. If you dont use the transitions then you are good. I do use them and in my case I had both of these folders in my MediaCore folder I removed the "Film Impact Essentials Lite" folder and left the other one and Film Impact is still installed and the error is gone and the double entry in the fx list is also gone now.

Jaap H. Boerhof, founder of FilmImpact.Net, has been a video editor for many years. He started building video transitions in 2009 using Final Cut Pro FX Script. When he moved to Premiere Pro, he re-wrote his transitions in C++. Before this interview, Jaap and I met at Adobe Video World in Seattle, WA. It was there I learned that he actually began his career early studying computer science and then ended up finishing his degree as a drama teacher. We laughed and then realized that computer science + drama may just be the perfect combination for video editing. In this interview, below, learn about how and why he started building his awesome video effects.

Jaap: When I was working as a video editor, I created a lot of promotional videos. Doing so, I was particular interested in video transitions because they helped me creating some cool effects quickly. I used video transitions not just for transitioning from one scene to another, but also for concealing and revealing texts, lower thirds, logos, etc. I wanted to have more of them, so I started building them.

Jaap: Film Impact transitions can really be used for any type of video production. Using more or less, of course, will all depend on the style you are after. Some of the video transitions could be used for creating a flash back in a movie, while others could be perfect for adding more energy to a promotional video. Some of them work beautifully on texts while others are excellent for logo reveals. We have quite a wide range of different effects that all will fit in one or more genres.

Gal: What role does hard sciences (math, engineering, physics) play into the transitions and effects you build? Were you a developer or Engineer before you started making video effects?

Jaap: I have done some effects on request. One example is TMZ. This celebrity news website was moving from Final Cut to Premiere and wanted to have some of their frequently used video transitions ported to Premiere Pro.

Jaap: There is a NBC news promo made by Eric Naso that uses almost all video transitions of Transition Pack 2. It is fantastic to see how he works with the video transitions for only a couple of frames. His usage of our video transitions help to create a very energetic promo - I love it!
