"Indonesia Mission 2025" OceanX - Sulawesi Sea
I was the Principal Investigator of DEEP-ECHOES (Discovery and Expedition for Ecogeophysical Profiling – Eastern Sea Hydroacoustic Observations for Deep-Sea Environments and Seamounts), I lead a transdisciplinary team at the Research Center for Deep Sea, BRIN. We work in close collaboration with ITB, IPB, Université Paris-Saclay, and BRIN’s Research Center for Geological Disaster
Our proposal focuses on the multi-scale characterization of five unmapped seamounts in the Celebes Sea, a tectonically complex region that remains one of the least explored areas on Earth. By integrating high-resolution bathymetric mapping, water-column analysis, and ROV-based physical sampling, we aim to achieve four primary objectives: (1) defining seamount morphology, (2) detecting indications of hydrothermal activity, (3) investigating benthic habitats, and (4) evaluating geohazard potential, such as slope instability and volcanic risks.
"Indonesia Mission 2024" OceanX - Indian Ocean
During the OceanX "Indonesia Mission 2024" Expedition Leg-3 in the Indian Ocean, I served as an on-board scientist aboard R/V OceanXplorer, collaborating closely with Chief Scientist and Oceanography Team Lead, Prof. Agus Atmadipoera from IPB University.
I was managed the acoustic and hydrographic aspect of the mission, conducting high-resolution acoustic mapping, including multibeam echosounder, multifrequency echosounder, sub-bottom profiler, and ADCP.
The expedition's multidisciplinary deep-sea research also integrated oceanographic sampling and observation methods, such as ROV deployments, sediment coring, aerial megafauna tracking via helicopter, and water sampling. A defining highlight of my participation was descending to a depth of 200 meters in a manned submersible to conduct direct marine observations.
