Violinist | Composer | Producer

Ángela Varo Moreno is an Andalusian violinist, composer, and producer whose innovative music merges the worlds of jazz and flamenco. Rooted in Andalusian cultural heritage, her sound brings together traditional flamenco influences with contemporary jazz improvisation. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, she earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Contemporary Writing and Production and Jazz Performance, as well as a Master’s in Jazz Performance from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, led by Danilo Pérez. During her time at Berklee, she was recognized with multiple scholarships, including serving as a Latin Grammy Scholarship Ambassador.

Ángela has collaborated with jazz icons such as Danilo Pérez, Kris Davis, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington, Joe Lovano, and Brian Blade, and currently performs as a member of Pérez's Global Jazz Messengers. (Grammy nominated Project). She is also the violinist of the award-winning quintet Zambra (Devon Gates, Bahar Badiei,Ria Modak, Queralt Giralt and Varo herself), as well as the Clarity String Quartet, mentored by grammy winers Eugene Friesen and Sara Caswell, bringing her artistry into both improvisational and chamber music traditions.

Her work further highlights the artistry of her native Andalusia through collaborations with the renowned flamenco group Califato 3/4, which combines electronic elements with flamenco roots. Thanks to Califato 3/4, she has worked with celebrated flamenco vocalists Lole Montoya and Ángeles Toledano, contributing her arrangements and violin performances to projects that honor and reinvent Andalusian musical traditions.

In addition to her performance and compositional work, she serves as professor of jazz violin, contemporary chamber music, and jazz ensemble at the prestigious Phillips Academy Andover. In 2023, she was awarded the Liesenfeld Grant in recognition of her artistic and academic contributions.

Ángela’s debut album, Dançâ del Aire (Habitable Records), explores themes of migration, Andalusian identity, and cultural connection through a Global Jazz lens, and is now available on all streaming platforms.
