I am deeply passionate about youth, families, and education. With over 20 years of experience working with young people and as a caretaker myself, I understand the challenges parents and guardians face. I am committed to bringing my experience and dedication to the school board to help build a strong, supportive village for students, families, teachers, and staff. My goal is to ensure that our school district is a place where all students can THRIVE, educators and staff feel SUPPORTED, and parents and guardians feel ENCOURAGED and WELCOMED.
My campaign is centered on:
Building a supportive village for our youth, parents, and teachers.
Enhancing student outcomes through collaboration with families, educators, school social workers, guidance counselors, and parent-teacher coordinators.
Promoting community engagement by fostering partnerships between schools, local organizations, churches, and community leaders.
Advocating for mental health and well-being programs for both students and staff.
Championing safe and inclusive learning environments for everyone.
Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and they deserve the resources, support, and recognition needed to succeed. I will advocate for professional development opportunities, smaller class sizes, and access to mental health support. I also believe in encouraging community support for our educators and creating environments where their voices are heard and valued.
I have dedicated over 20 years to working with youth and families, actively participating in various community service initiatives. One of my key roles has been organizing educational programs like 4-H, where I promote youth leadership and development. Additionally, my experience as a caretaker for my two youngest nephews has given me valuable insight into the challenges families face in raising children today. I also implement curricula that align with educational standards to enhance learning for all children. Recognizing that each child has a unique learning style, I leverage my creativity to adapt curricula, making learning fun, interesting, and engaging. My experience spans classrooms serving exceptional children as well as those who may struggle academically, ensuring that I challenge and maintain the interest of all students.
As a guardian myself, I understand the concerns and challenges parents face. I believe in listening to parents, understanding their needs, and working with them to create solutions that support their children’s education. My platform includes advocating for open communication between schools and families and making sure that parents’ voices are heard in decision-making processes. In addition, I believe that a web has to be created to support parents/guardians of our students to connect them to resources that are necessary for the WHOLE family. Safe spaces for the caregivers must be provided.
I am dedicated to expanding programs that foster youth development, emphasizing leadership, de-escalation, positive communication skills, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) activities. I also focus on developing soft skills, goal setting, cultural exposure, and social skill-building.
This can be achieved by collaborating with local schools, community organizations, and businesses to create workshops, mentorship programs, and interactive learning experiences. Additionally, I plan to implement after-school and summer programs that provide a safe and engaging environment for youth to explore their interests and develop essential skills. My goal is to ensure that all young people in Marlboro County have access to opportunities that support their academic, emotional, and social growth.
I believe schools thrive when they have strong relationships with the community. I will work to create partnerships between local businesses, civic organizations, and the school district to support educational programs, scholarships, and student activities. My work with nonprofit organizations, local businesses, and tourism department has shown me how powerful community collaboration can be in creating positive change.
Mental health is a crucial part of student success. I am committed to advocating for more mental health resources within our schools, including counseling services and programs that teach students about emotional well-being. Through initiatives like Community Impact Day for Youth and Families, I’ve already been involved in promoting mental health awareness and providing resources for students and adults in our community.
I bring a unique combination of personal experience, professional expertise, and community involvement. As a longtime advocate for youth and families, I understand the importance of creating a supportive environment for students to learn and grow. My platform emphasizes building a community-centered approach to education, where parents, teachers, and community members work together to support our children’s success.
There are many ways to get involved with my campaign! You can volunteer your time, help spread the word, or attend community events. I encourage everyone to join me in making a positive impact on our schools and community.
