My Financial Empowerment project, "Money Matters," focuses on empowering low-income domestic workers. I recently achieved a significant milestone by securing $500 in seed funding and mentorship by winning the Fall 2022 Action Circles Conference pitch competition from among 50+ competitors.
Through this project, I've conducted various financial empowerment workshops across different cities in India, reaching over 500 domestic workers. These sessions delve into fundamental aspects of financial well-being, emphasizing the importance of savings, explaining the compounding effect, and guiding participants on accessing government insurance and pension schemes. Notably, one achievement from these workshops was the facilitation of a local bank kiosk on-site, resulting in the opening of more than 50 accounts tailored for minors' future educational needs.
The success and positive outcomes witnessed in these workshops have fueled an expansion of efforts. Volunteer recruitment and guidance initiatives have been extended to reach many cities across India, aiming to touch the lives of 2000 individuals. This expansion is driven by the overwhelming demand and the life-changing impact observed in previous sessions.
As this initiative evolves, it's heartening to see the enthusiasm of the workers, their regret at not knowing about these schemes earlier, and their commitment to enrolling themselves and their children in various schemes. The movement is gaining momentum, and my goal of having 200+ workers enrolled by the year-end is well underway. Witnessing this personal initiative transform into a movement is especially rewarding, with the potential to impact financial literacy in communities across the country.
