Hello and welcome to my website! This is a place where I will be sharing my music along with my YouTube page which you can find here.
Andrew (Andy) Junttonen (b. 1998) enjoys writing music in a variety of shapes and forms including but not limited to ambient, dance, electroacoustic, film, organic, political, and process music. Taking influence from jazz, metal, minimalism, post-minimalism, rock, serialism, and spectralism he combines his love of rhythmic textures with lush harmonies and unconventional but simple melodic ideas. Andy was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2020. There he studied Music Education and Composition, played in Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Brass Ensemble, Orchestra, many chamber groups, and sang in the Chorale. He has been awarded State and Regional composition awards through the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and National Association for Music Education as well as other regional competitions. Some of his recently completed projects include a consortium commission for 1-4 saxophones and flexible percussion (premiere in March 2023), a MicroOpera premiere in February 2022, four (4) pieces recorded at BNR Radio Studio in Varna, Bulgaria in the summer of 2021, and performances by the Johnstown Symphony, The ___ Experiment, and Bowling Green graduate students. He also coordinated and hosted the first Praecepta New Music Mini-Festival in Bowling Green, Ohio. A three-day new music festival including sixteen (16) premieres by student and alumni composers with guests Andrew Martin Smith, Jamie Leigh Sampson, and The ___ Experiment. In the spring of 2022, he graduated with a Master of Music in Composition from BGSU and now lives in Cleveland while working at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He enjoys consuming all types of music in his free time along with other art forms- movies, video games, visual art, cooking, and craft beer.
