This is my 16th year of practicing dermatology and I still feel that I benefitted greatly from completing this program. Dr. Boswell's explanations were excellent in helping me to really understand the pathophysiology of the skin conditions that I have been working with for years. I also feel more confident in dealing with bullous diseases and a number of other skin conditions that I have felt intimidated by in the past. Dr. Boswell is very engaging and the lessons were very interesting! The pictures and hand drawn diagrams were very helpful and reinforced the material. As a PA, I initially practiced in a different specialty for 3 years. Dr Boswell's Boot Camp explains the foundations of dermatology - not just the basics of an illness, but helps you understand WHY each disease presents itself in that way. I appreciate how diseases and their treatments are reinforced in different lectures from different angles. On top of it all, Dr Boswell's presentation of the complex material is very direct and easy to understand - you almost feel like you're having a conversation and he doesn't shy away from interjecting a little humor. I feel like this course provided me a solid foundation in derm that I will reflect on and delve back into for years to come. Thank you for this wonderful resource! I hope all specialties develop a similar course for their APPs.

I have been in the Dermatology field as a PA for 17 years. I wish I had taken this course when I had started. The thorough explanations and comprehensive nature of this course are so helpful despite how much derm experience you have. Dr. Boswell is a great instructor and covers what is needed to sharpen the dermatology skills of any practitioner. I love the shaking of the finger to add emphasis on what was incorrect. Dr. Boswell's course is a must-have for any non-residency trained dermatology provider. He condenses long chapters into the meat and potatoes of clinical practice. It is well-organized and he is engaging to watch. I recommend re-watching the videos after one go through because you'll pick up more the second time around. So grateful for this resource! Description: As time has gone on, editions of this book have matured from a friendly introductory overview of dermatologic diseases to a more comprehensive book with in-depth discussions of pathophysiology and treatment. Excellent detailed color clinical photographs have replaced black-and-white photos. The accompanying ebook version has supplemental clinical photographs, which are referenced at the end of each chapter. The content is always available even when there are updated editions. The previous edition was published in 2016.

Purpose: The purpose is to provide an accessible reference for diagnosing and treating the majority of skin diseases encountered in a dermatology practice. These objectives are achieved.

Audience: The audience is medical students, dermatology residents, and clinical dermatologists. The needs of these intended groups are for the most part satisfied. The authors are credible experts in dermatology.

Features: The strength of this book is how it skillfully weaves treatment recommendations with the discussions of clinical presentations. Without burdening the discussion with the minutiae of studies, the rationale for a particular therapy is explained succinctly. I like the matter of fact approach style of writing and how it is combined with the themes of pathophysiology.

Assessment: This continues to be a solid reference for diagnosing and treating skin disorders. The discussions of treatment have greatly improved and rival those in the encyclopedic two-volume books, Fitzpatrick's Dermatology, 9th edition, Kang et al. (McGraw-Hill, 20199) and Dermatology, 4th edition, Bolognia et al. (Elsevier, 2018), but without the weight. This book continues to be an all-time favorite of mine and it will continue to occupy a prominent place in my medical office library. This update includes information not in the previous edition, such as the Zika virus, new discoveries of immunogenetics for various diseases, new diseases, etc., so it is definitely warranted.

We posit that increasing diversity among the provider workforce within the field of dermatology will lead to improved patient outcomes overall and to decreased disparities in dermatological care. While race-concordant visits are by no means a prerequisite for quality care, numerous publications have demonstrated that race-concordant visits last longer and that patients are more satisfied, rate their physicians as more participatory, and provide higher ratings of positive patient affect.5 Furthermore, physicians from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups improve the quality of patient care by increasing access to care, providing culturally competent care, and contributing culturally diverse perspectives within the specialty at large. With regards to increasing access to care, studies have shown that Black and Hispanic physicians, for example, are more likely to practice in areas that are underserved or understaffed, to care for poor patients or those with Medicaid or no health insurance, and to care for patients who report poor health status and use more acute medical services.5,7 17dc91bb1f
