Kaitiakitanga
Music from Oceania through the lens of Kaitiakitanga – the practice of caring for the natural environment as an equal partner to humanity. In te ao Māori, the indigenous culture of Aotearoa New Zealand, we are descendants of Ranginui, the sky father, and Papatūānuku, the earth mother. Rangi and Papa’s children created forests, rivers, animals, and humans as equals, intrinsically linking humanity to the natural world. The ongoing effects of climate change have highlighted the breakdown of the connection between communities, ancestors, and nature. This concert explores our connection with the land and the consequences of our separation from it, featuring works for piano, viola, and voice.

Earth, the Bringer of Ambivalence
Pianists Andrew Nesler and Blake Huang present a programme on existential ambivalence in the face of climate change, pairing an extremely rare, 1923 four-hands arrangement of Holst's masterwork, The Planets, with Greenbaum's powerful essay on Earth's place in our solar system, the 2013 Sonata for piano four hands.
