What is a Potentiometer?
In a circuit, there is a flow of energy that goes through the circuit. Sometime there's to much energy for the light bule, and to fix that the flow of energy will eventually hit a resister. A resister will create a more difficult path for the flow of energy, controlling the energy that comes out. A Potentiometer is a knob that controls the resister, it does this by providing an easier path for the current. twist the knob one way to allow more energy in the current, twist it the other way to make the path for the current more difficult. A example of a Potentiometer is when you turn a knob in your house, that knob dims the light when you turn it one way, turn it the other way it brightens the light.
