Dr. Friedson is Director, Health Economics for the research department at the Milken Institute. Previously he was an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Colorado Denver with a secondary appointment in the department of Health Systems Management and Policy at the Colorado School of Public Health.
He is a health economist with a background in applied microeconomics (public economics, labor economics, and urban economics) and has broad research interests in health, healthcare, and policy surrounding health behaviors and healthcare markets. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Urban Economics and Journal of Human Resources. Dr. Friedson's work has been covered in outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and The Economist.
In 2023, his first book, Economics of Healthcare: A Brief Introduction was published by Cambridge University Press. The book is a primer on both health economics and basic economics aimed at the health economics student who does not necessarily have an economics or math background.
