While working as a server, I provide assistance in and around the restaurant, delivering quality service consistently and effectively in a hectic and fast-paced environment. I manage and de-escalate stressful situations with customers. In my time working, I was flexible and switched gears whenever needed, training other servers or working in the back of the kitchen doing prep work, something beyond the scope of my regular duties. I learned how to be efficient with my time through self-reflection and by making sure to improve skills I was lacking in.
As a learning lab assistant. I come in to get everything ready for the day’s lab. I collaborate with the TA, professor, and Stock TA to run an efficient lab. I helped students in their direct learning of concepts on microbiology and facilitated a good workplace. I enforce the lab rules as applicable and help students whenever they need extra materials or concepts explained. I gained a better understanding of research through the TA, who let me conduct my own research experiment regarding the efficiency of methods of their long-spanning project.
This was my first experience working in healthcare, and it was the first time I really got to interact with patients on a daily basis. One of my favorite parts of the job was talking with the regular donors who came in each week. Over time, I got to know many of their stories, careers, and families, and it made every shift a little different.
