I’m a PhD student in Philosophy at the University of Birmingham's Centre for Philosophy of Religion, and a member of the Global Philosophy of Religion Project II. I completed my master’s at the University of Oxford in 2021.I currently hold an AHRC (M4C) award, which includes an £87,000 grant, to advance my research on the argument from nonbelief. My main focus is on whether the fact that some people don't believe in God makes it less likely that God exists. Parts of this work have appeared in Religious Studies (see here and here and here).Recently, I’ve begun to focus on the relation between epistemic distance and autonomy, and more specifically, on John Hick's idea that if God exists, God's existence must not be obvious if humans are to be free.I also have broader interests in epistemology, the cognitive science of religion, ethics, and the history of philosophical theology; within epistemology, my current focus is the emerging literature on epistemic blame. For more information, see my PhilPapers page and CV.Contact: axb1660@student.bham.ac.ukContact: andrew_blanton@hotmail.com
