Welcome to my personal webpage!
Researcher and trained economist with policy background and extensive experience in large-scale complex projects involving academia, international organizations and the private sector. My research is interdisciplinary in approach, primarily conducted through large EU-based consortia of scholars, and major collaborative policy development initiatives.
Currently, I am Postdoctoral Researcher RTD-A at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. Formerly, Research Economist at the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Economics at the University of Milan, and Economic Policy Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Milan (Milan, Italy) and an MA in Economics and Finance with First Class Honours from Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh, UK).
Research interests. My research bridges Health Economics and Policy, Demography, Labour Studies and Life Course Studies, with a strong commitment to addressing real-world challenges through a transdisciplinary lens. I aim to generate socially relevant, policy-responsive evidence that promotes inclusive, resilient and equitable societies. My work is centered on the structural and psychosocial determinants of demographic and health outcomes, situated within the shifting landscapes of global development and systemic change. Anchored in a life course perspective, my research spans the full continuum of human experience – from early demographic foundations to later-life health outcomes. I explore interconnected domains such as fertility behaviour and family policy, migration, work and health trajectories, job-related stressors, socio-economic health determinants and health inequalities, and healthy ageing. My approach combines empirical analysis with conceptual innovation and measurement development, particularly in designing frameworks and tools for both global research and European policy contexts. Methodologically, I specialise in advanced quantitative and mixed-methods research, with a strong focus on longitudinal design and population-based studies.
Policy experience – acquired via research supporting policy processes and interventions for both private and public sector organizations – includes: applied population research; sustainable health planning and health research methodologies; healthy ageing and longevity; work-family policies; employee training and development policies; resilience, innovation and specialisation strategies; interregional development; social cohesion; systemic governance.
Policy-relevant contributions and collaborative research projects. Experienced member of several national and European collaborative research projects as well as a number of European, national, regional and local policy initiatives, including: NextGenerationEU Age-It: Ageing Well in an Ageing Society, Horizon 2020 Futu-Res Towards a Resilient Future of Europe, Horizon 2020 Better Agri-food Trade Modelling and Policy Analysis (BATModel), Italian Project on Gender Equality, Fertility, Maternal Health, Family and Parenting Support, European Commission JRC 'Sustainable and Inclusive Wellbeing'/'Fairness and Resilience' working groups, 2023 European Semester Country Reports; Co-Lead, Policy Expert Group, Society for Longitudinal and Lifecourse Studies.
Professional private sector experience. I combine research and policy experience with a proven professional track record in key public and private sector organisations across the European continent, namely central banking, risk management, commercial and investment banking, pharmaceutical (project management, regulatory affairs and clinical statistics for immunology and central nervous system medical trials), analysis and advisory for tech organisations.
Data and methods. My empirical expertise involves working with both primary and secondary data in both cross-sectional and longitudinal settings. I employ state-of-the-art estimation techniques, including advanced panel data methods, machine learning and modern difference-in-differences strategies. Additionally, I have valuable experience in survey design, methods and rollout, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, as well as regulatory and technical procedures for data collection and management.
Peer review. Reviewer for (selected) Socio-Economic Review (SER), Social Science & Medicine (SSM) and Health Economics. Check out my curriculum vitae for more details.
Teaching. I have taught courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics at undergraduate and postgraduate level (University of Milan), postgraduate-level Labour Economics (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia) and postgraduate courses in the field of Health Economics and Policy (Politecnico di Milano). Here you can access my up-to-date teaching record. I have experience supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and acting as a discussant for doctoral students.
What drives me. I am always keen to open new perspectives based on evidence. An advocate of equitable health access and working conditions for men and women alike, and a strong supporter of women in STEM careers and their role in sustainability plans.
