WIth a Master's Degree in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Guelph, I specialize in strengthening the relationships of diverse couples, parents and their children/teens, and intimates. I work with individual clients from a relationship perspective in recognition of the significant impacts our relationships, past and present, have on our lives and wellbeing. I also take a systemic approach, viewing individual and relationship difficulties in historical context and consideration of the current conditions of people's lives. It is a respectful and comprehensive approach that is rooted in a strong therapeutic relationship.
I have formal applied training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and families and often apply it in relationship work along with other practices grounded in attachment and trauma knowledge depending on the nature of client concerns and desired changes.
I have much experience working sensitively with parents and I understand the incredible demands and the many ways that parents become overwhelmed and made to feel not good enough. With couples, I am skilled in strengthening awareness of interaction patterns and partners' shared and unique needs, deepening emotional connection and sense of security.
Through years of feedback, I learned that clients find me easy to talk with because of the safety of an actively de-shaming environment and strong curiosity from me that deepens our mutual understanding of what is important to focus on. I learned from my younger clients that they really appreciate my sense of humour and playfulness.
I tend to work quite collaboratively with clients and tailor the approach to their needs. However, I am capable of providing a more authoritative approach when this is preferred or deemed necessary for the benefit of clients. The approach evolves over time as our understanding of the issues evolve and the factors most relevant to them are addressed.
