THIS IS A LONG DOCUMENT. FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, TAKE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES TO READ AND TAKE IN ALL IT CONTAINS BEFORE THE EXAM.
Reading this page carefully BEFORE the exam will give you a DISTINCT ADVANTAGE DURING the exam!!!
---------------------------
THESE ARE MY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL STUDENTS taking written examinations for my courses (both "triennale" and "magistrale" levels).
BEFORE THE EXAM:
The exam is administered in a computer lab, via Moodle. Therefore, some computer literacy (using a pc, typing on a computer keyboard fluently, using a word processor, saving documents, changing languages on a word processor, etc.) is crucial.
Make sure you know how to navigate the course Moodle page and that you know where to find your instructions for the exam, which are always available at least two days before the exam. Log on to your Moodle course page and read all the relevant examination instructions BEFORE the exam, so as to save time during the exam.
UniTO credentials are required to take this exam. BEFORE THE EXAM, make sure you have acces to the course Moodle page and that your unito credentials are valid. IMPORTANT TIP: As you test your unito and Moodle credentials BEFORE the exam, make sure you are using an anonymous browser window (do this on a PC - NOT your smartphone or tablet!): this will ensure that you will replicate the exact same conditions you will find in the lab (the fact that you are able to access Moodle from your home pc is no guarantee that you will be able to do so from another machine: an anonymous window will tell you exacly what will happen on an outside pc). Contact the unito help desk in case of any problems.
Set your unito gmail account to a language you are familiar with!!! If you do not speak Italian, you should immediately change your gmail defaults to another language of your choice.
Have the course Moodle link ready, without having to look for it online at the last minute.
For OFFICIAL EXAMINATIONS (does NOT apply to midterm exams - or "esoneri"): you must book your exam via the myUnito app at least 2 days before the exam. Students who have not booked an exam cannot be admitted to take it. Examination questions will be made available only to students who have regularly booked the exam.
DURING THE EXAM:
Have your uniTo credentials (your username and password) and a picture ID with you at all times during the exam.
Your exam is taken using one of the lab pcs. Personal devices are not allowed.
As you take a seat in the room (try to get to the room AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE the official start of the exam), immediately log onto one of the lab pcs, open Google Chrome and open the course Moodle page. Make sure you have links ready to access these pages. PLEASE NOTICE: many students get stuck with one of these steps and their exams start late because they either cannot remember ther uniTO password or for other techinical issues. COME TO THE EXAM WELL PREPARED on how to log onto the university network and on the applictions that you will use (also see my tips in the "before the exam" section, above)!!!
Instructions for your specific exam are on Moodle. Because they have been uploaded prior to the exams, you should already be familiar with them. Your examination questions will be available on Moodle at the appointed start time for the exam.
Answers to any open questions must be 1. typed to a docx document, 2. saved to your desktop and 3. uploaded to Moodle by the deadline given on Moodle. MS Word (Italian interface!) is installed in all lab pcs. I suggest that you consider using Google Docs instead of MS Word (especially if you are not fluent in Italian). Google Docs allows you to set your interface to any language. If your Google apps still speaks a language you are not familiar, change it BEFORE THE exam: log on to Goolge, go to settings, and change to the desired language.
If using MS Word (2016 version, available on the lab pcs), make sure to change your document language to ENGLISH before you start writing. This will help you with spellchecking and grammar review, thus significantly improving the quality of your answer. If you do not know how to do this, EXPERIMENT AT HOME BEFORE THE EXAM!!! Again, consider Google Docs as an alternative. In both cases, experiment at home - BEFORE THE EXAM - on how to open and save doc files and switch to your desired language.
Remember to write your FULL NAME and the DATE at the top of any documents you will upload.
Course books/materials and personal notes may be used ONLY IF allowed for the specific exam you are taking. Undergraduate and post-graduate exams have different rules. Please check your course blog for details.
NO COMMUNICATION, in any form or under any medium, is allowed throughout the duration of your exam, except with the instructor(s). Students will be expelled if found communicating in any way.
Your exam paper(s) must be saved as a docx file and uploaded to Moodle by the given deadline. Moodle will automatically refuse submissions after the deadline, and no other method of delivery will be allowed.
Pls. understand that the minute you begin an exam, you automatically forgo ANY SCORES PREVIOUSLY OBTAINED on that same exam. Therefore, if you withdraw during an exam you already took - and passed - in the past, your new score on the exam will be 0 (zero).
AFTER THE EXAM:
Make sure that you see confirmation on Moodle that your file(s) has/have been submitted.
Moodle sends you an email confirming that a document has been submitted. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PC UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THAT CONFIRMATION!!! If you do not receive a confirmation email, return to the Moodle submission page and re-submit (or submit) your file. Again: wait for the Moodle confirmation email.
Log out of your pc. Do NOT switch it off. You may now leave the room.
Your examination score(s) will be posted to the course blog or sent to you via email, usually 7 to 10 days after the exam.
