For those who don't know me, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Andre Fernandez, and I'm a recent Bachelor of Arts in Music graduate from Florida Southern College. I've studied Tenor Trombone under Dr. Brian Brink and Jazz Studies under Dr. Jeffrey Benatar.
I was born in the beautiful Central Florida area, and started picking up the trombone in seventh grade at age thirteen. I was blown away by how music can take after being selected to play in the All-County Band in the tenth grade of high school. At Florida Southern College, I was involved in several music organizations like Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) Chapter, and the Jazz Education Network.
As an advanced musician, I have strived to be proficient in performing and teaching. Playing as a jazz or orchestral trombonist may have a strong passion in me, but it'll also help me become a better teacher, feeling prepared in the future. Throughout my time as a student, I've performed in a variety of ensembles like: Symphony Band, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, Chamber Jazz, Brass Quintet, and Trombone Ensemble. I was selected to perform at the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) with the Florida All-State Intercollegiate Band in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Also, I'm the recipient of the Dr. Larry Sledge Orchestral Scholarship and the Albert Key Outstanding Senior Instrumental Award.
I plan to take a gap year from my main education to focus on getting prepared for Graduate School, applying for my Master's Degree in Music Education or Music Therapy. Before that, I will start working on earning my teaching certification for the time being.
