Meet Your Teachers

Ms. Kathy House

Ms. House is in her tenth year teaching orchestra and is excited to lead the NEW Andover Orchestra program! She holds degrees in violin performance, music education (Bachelor of Arts, Kansas Wesleyan University, 2013), and Arts Management and Leadership (Masters of Arts, Wichita State University, 2021).

Ms. House teaches the Delano 101 Youth Orchestra each summer, maintains a private string studio in West Wichita, and is the South Central Kansas Music Educator's Chair for Orchestra. Additionally, she has presented nationally on tone production and is an active member of TODA, NAfME, and ASTA. Many of her students have gone on to major in music, perform in youth symphonies, and inspire others to perform. They can be found throughout the Wichita community performing. Prior to Andover, Ms. House taught in Wichita at Horace Mann Middle School (6-8th grades) and Northwest High School (9-12th grades). Her orchestras are frequently complimented on tone production and expressive qualities.

Her favorite composers are Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, and Liszt. When not teaching or performing, Ms. House can be found playing board games, solving escape rooms, chilling with her family, and exploring nature.

Come join our family of musicians and discover how inspiring music can be!

Mrs. Laura Hutchins

Mrs. Hutchins has been teaching for 30 years and is excited to start the Orchestra Program in Andover schools! She has a degree in Music Education from Wichita State University and is the Past President for KASTA (Kansas American Strings Teachers). Her Orchestras have performed in many national events such as the ASTA National Orchestra competition, and the Midwest International Band and Orchestra clinic in Chicago. In both of the national competitions, her orchestra ranked as one of the top groups amongst many groups and youth symphonies. Her ensembles have also performed for KMEA (Kansas Music Educators) as well as many other festivals in the Midwest. After a performance in the International Clinic in Chicago, her group was invited to participate in the International Youth Symphony in Europe!

In addition to teaching, Mrs. Hutchins is a Guest Clinician and Judge for Orchestras around the State. She also has a private studio with many students in the Wichita Youth Symphony. Several of her students have gone on to major in music and now have Orchestra programs of their own.

Mrs. Hutchins has earned the 2009 SCKMEA Middle Level Outstanding Music Educator award, 2009 & 2012 Certificate of Merit Award from ASTA, 2014 Golden Apple Award Winner for USD 259, and the 2019 Robinson Middle School Carl Knepper Award.

Mrs. Hutchins has four grown children and seven grandchildren! When she isn't teaching or being a grandma, you would find her in the kitchen cooking her favorite recipes, or working in one of her many flower gardens.
