From the hit book by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka takes the stage! The demand for vibrant colors was a joy to work with. I wanted clear and intense color blocking in the characters for example Violet in, well violet, the Teevees in yellow, Buckets in brown, etc. I wanted the rest of the cast to be big, bright, and, lavish to show the contrast of the bucket family. Inside the factory, you needed to be transported into a new world with the Squirrels and Oompa Loompas. The Candy Kids was an ensemble that I paid a lot of attention to, at the beginning of the show they opened up the story so again they needed to be lavish and bright. From the start you need to see the difference between Charlie Buckett and his peers, they needed to be loud and almost obnoxious and it worked! This was a surreal show to work on, I love looking back at it!
