Open Call for Ethnomusicologists!
To uncover how music, culture, and nature are connected, we must first transform ourselves into ethnomusicologists—researchers who explore how music reflects the world around us.
Your mission is to investigate the connections between music, culture, and nature through the lens of Andean culture, with a special focus on the magical flauta de pan (Andean pan flute). You’ll explore the world of Andean music, uncover the stories behind the pan flute and make your own version of this unique instrument
Task:
Your task is to create an engaging package that demonstrates how the Andean culture uses the flauta de pan (Pan Flute) to connect their music with nature. You will showcase the deep relationship between Andean culture, the sounds of the Pan Flute, and the natural environment in a creative and informative way. This package will be presented at the Moonshot Studio Celebrates Latin American Art event!
Your package will include the following elements:
Pan Flute Creation:
Design and craft your own version of an Andean Pan Flute using materials provided in class. Make sure to decorate it to reflect Andean culture and traditions.
Presentation on Cultural Connections:
Prepare a presentation that explains how the Pan Flute serves as a bridge between Andean culture and nature. Highlight how the instrument’s sounds mirror the landscapes of the Andes and its cultural significance in local traditions.
Explaining the Creation of Sound:
Discuss how the design of your Pan Flute influences the sounds it produces. Explain the connection between the materials used, the environment, and the music.
Prepare to present this package as part of the Moonshot Studio Celebrates Latin American Art! event, where you'll showcase your work and celebrate the vibrant relationship between music, culture, and nature in Latin American cultures!
