Level two:
The second level gallery is done on the inside, enclosed in small rooms and sections, and not continuous like the outer gallery (level 1). This gallery is also to be entered from the east entrance, and the carvings are to be viewed in clock-wise direction, always keeping the bas-relief on the right. Many of the depictions on this level are of mythical nature in the spirit of Hinduism.
East Gallery:
Scenes of ascetics and animals in the mountains and forests, the king in his palace and ascetics, lively hunting scenes with dancing beauties (apsaras) flying high above. Next is another military procession, with both Khmer and Cham soldiers marching together, not in formation. Daily life activities are carved throughout.
South Gallery:
This section starts out with another military procession, scenes of daily life, religious depictions of Garuda (mythical bird) and Mount Meru (center of the Buddhist universe)with ascetics and animals. Some of the panels are eroded and not legible. Other scenes of men fighting with fierce animals, procession of warriors, combat between a prince and his army, palace and court musicians, a fisherman throwing a net into the water while a princess watches on. Next stands a god in a lotus, Hindu god Shiva accompanied by a female consort with an orchestra in the midst. The last part shows a mountain with wild animals and a tiger eating a man. Shiva at his throne in the palace surrounded by his followers, while ascetics and animals on the river bank. Finally, Vishnu (another Hindu god) is surrounded by prostrating followers and apsaras.
West Gallery:
This section begins with Vishnu standing on Garuda while subduing a band of demons, next are apsaras and orchestra with dancers. A battle scene could be seen on top of this. Next is the showing of a temple construction: moving of stone blocks, polishing stones, and hoisting them into place. This is followed by people playing a board game on a boat and a cockfight on land, as Shiva and Vishnu are together in the palace. Next, ascetics meditate while other swim among lotus flowers and a bird with a fish in its mouth. Follow is another warrior procession with two leaders in a chariot pulled by horses. The next area depicts a scene from Hindu mythology: Churning of the Ocean of Milk. A serpent is held at both ends by demons and gods, a column is resting on top of a turtle to form the pivot. Vishnu is shown holding the shaft. Finally, a god atop a bird pacifies a group of fighting demons, as the ruler watches on from a cart drawn by lion.
North Gallery:
This section begins with scenes from the palace, servants with offerings, mountain with wild beasts. A river scene: a boat with men in short hair cut, and another with men wearing head-dresses that look like upside-down lotus flowers (much like the military processions of the Khmer and the Cham on the outer gallery). The next section is carved with images of Hindu gods: Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma, Ganesha, and celestial dancing beauties. Followed is a scene of Shiva being surrounded by ascetics and women, with Nandi the bull standing by. Then the god of love, Kama, shoots an arrow of love at the meditating Shiva at the mountaintop with his primary consort Parvati at his side. Next is the scene of Shiva on his vehicle (Nandi the bull) with Parvati siting on his lap. With servants and their offerings, ascetics meditating, Shiva blesses his worshipers, a king leads a procession followed by an army, musicians, elephants and horses, and princesses in palanquins and carts pulled by oxen.
East Gallery:
This section completes the circumambulation of the inner gallery. Another procession with king, soldiers, animals, chariots, and carts. The throne is empty while the king holds a bow riding atop an elephant. Finally, the "Legend of the Leper King": A crowd watching the king and a serpent in battle, the king caught the serpent's venom and contracted leprosy. Next, the king is in the forest giving his servants orders to seek out healing ascetics from the forest. Women surround the king and examine his hand, then the king is lying on the ground (presumably dead) with ascetics standing then the king is lying on the ground (presumably dead) with ascetics standing at his sides.
