Season 128 is almost upon us, along with the new year! The Anchorage polarbears are coming off a World Series Appearance in Season 127 and hope to replicate that this upcoming season. The polarbears spent the offseason retooling the bullpen and upgrading players and their farm team, the British Columbia Maples. What do the Anchorage polarbears want to see from this season? We have three major things:
Bullpen upgrades - A big weakness of the polarbears last season was a lack of bullpen arms beyond RP Timoteo Preciado, RP Josiah Bryson, and CP Adiyta Barham. While Barham will remain as the teams closer, Preciado has been moved to the rotation and Bryson retired, leaving several holes. After signing RP Raul Vazquez, RP Patrick Blake, and RP Joshua Bays, the polarbears hope to have filed that hole within their roster. Starter consistency will also be important, with Ireland, Talbot, Morey, and Mattheny being crucial to success.
Speed: The polarbears were a slow team last season, and it showed. The team saw no steals this past season, something manager Kenny wants to change. "We will be alot more aggressive on the basepaths, and hope to increase run production that way". This comes as the polarbears had trouble scoring at times last season.
Depth: The polarbears have struggled at depth in the past few seasons, struggling to find major league quality players to be on the roster. The polarbears struggled to find a high quality starting Left Fielder until the latter portions of the season. They also had only one pitcher in AAA. With bidding and offseason trades, the polarbears hope to have deeper reserves this season and play a larger variety of players.
The polarbears are also looking for continued production from existing players, like RF Brian Arthur, 3B Pachao Garay, 1B Urbano Nino, SP Emmett Ireland, and CP Adiyta Barham. With the combination of new blood and old faces, the polarbears hope to make a playoff run.
