Beyond the Notes: Exploring the Fundmanetals of Brass Playing for School-Aged Students

Fletcher Mitchell is an International Euphonium Soloist based in Brisbane and has traveled to more than 40 countries around the world as a guest soloist, conductor, adjudicator, and educator including the United States, Canada, Europe, United Kingdom, Asia, the Pacific, and across Australia & New Zealand. He was full-time member of the Royal Australian Navy Band 2007-2020 (still serving as an active reserve musician) and casual euphonium with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) since 2016.

As an educator, he was the lecturer in low brass at Monash University in Melbourne 2015-2016 before moving to Brisbane in 2017 and took up the position of euphonium lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University in 2018, and low brass lecturer / casual academic at the University of Queensland since 2021.

Fletcher has commissioned more than 25 works for solo euphonium by Australian composers and performed these at festivals and conferences all over the work. He has worked as artist-in-residence at universities across the United States as a soloist, conductor and lecturer. As a researcher, he holds a Ph.D. from USQ researching 'The Emergence of Australian Solo Euphonium Repertoire’ and is currently writing journal articles for multiple international music and education journals.
